The first Christian missionaries arrived to Japan in the 16th. century. They produced an earlier version of the Bible in Japanese. Nevertheless, Christianity was later banned and the missionaries were expelled from the country. In the 19th century, Protestant denominations started producing different translations of the Bible. This BibleMax free module features the Shinkaiyaku Seisho (New Japanese Bible) version of the Scriptures. It was produced in 1970 and is based on the Biblia Hebraica and the Nestle-Aland Hebrew and Greek versions of the Old and New Testaments, respectively. It is one of the Bible versions most used by Japanese protestants, and thus, it does not feature the Apocrypha, which books are not considered canonical by Protestant denominations and that are a part of Catholic and Orthodox Bibles.
